23 Years Ago Today, Aaliyah Released Her Worldwide Hit Single 'Try Again'

Aaliyah ushered in a new decade and millennium with 'Try Again' when the single was released 23 years ago on February 22, 2000.

Thanks to Timbaland's production, she gave radio a revitalized sound with the slick electro-R&B jam. 'Try Again' remains as one of the late singer's signature songs and its influence still reverberates in music today.

The single was released in early 2000 as the lead cut from 'Romeo Must Die' soundtrack. Aaliyah co-starred in the action-packed film with Jet Li. On June 17, 2000 'Try Again' by Aaliyah Hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

'Try Again' doesn't sound like a song released in 2000, and could easily belong to todays R&B. It's unsurprising that 'Try Again' was nominated for a Grammy in 2001, and won two MTV Music Video Awards in 2000.
