50 Cent Announces 'Power' Spinoff With Mary J. Blige "Power Book II: Ghost"

Updated: Aug 3, 2019

Mary J. Blige will front the cast of a spin-off of 50 Cent's hit show "Power," after the series comes to an explosive end next year.

Executive producers Courtney Kemp and 50, real name Curtis James Jackson III, made the big announcement at a Television Critics Association panel for the Starz series.

"We are pleased to announce that we are in pre-production on the first of what we know will be a collection of series inspired by the dynamic world of Power," Kemp said, announcing "Power Book II: Ghost," as Blige took a set next to him.

But first comes Power's 15-episode sixth and final season, which is set to debut on August 25.

Director Kemp called the new series "the biggest swing of my writing life."

Blige, who was nominated for an Oscar for her role in Mudbound, then surprised the audience by joining Kemp and executive producer 50 Cent on stage.

“This is probably the most exciting thing that’s going to happen to me this year,” she said.
“I’ve been a fan of ‘Power’ since the very beginning and I want to thank Courtney Kemp and 50 Cent for starting this conversation with me.”
