BET has announced that Lil Wayne will be the recipient of their annual I Am Hip Hop Award.
Throughout his career, Weezy has released four platinum-selling albums, including the multi-platinum Tha Carter III and Tha Carter IV. The rapper has also released seven gold-selling albums and a number of multi platinum-selling singles and also has Drake and Nicki Minaj signed to his Young Money record label.
This year's BET Hip Hop Awards will take place on Oct. 6 at The Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater, while the televised event will air on Oct. 16. Comedian/actor DeRay Davis will host the BET Hip-Hop Awards. In terms of nominations, Drake leads the field with 11 nominations, followed by Cardi B with 10. Childish Gambino is up for six awards, while Travis Scott and Kendrick Lamar have five nominations each.
