Nostalgic Scoop: DID YOU KNOW? Alicia Keys Almost Joined 3LW

DID YOU KNOW? Alicia Keys almost joined 3LW

before launching her legendary solo career, she was once considered for a girl group that would later become 3LW.

The singer revealed that early in her career she was part of a group project that was being put together by industry executives.

“My second band that I was in was kind of one of those projects that gets put together by people,” Keys explained. “They heard that I could sing and thought maybe I could be part of it. It didn’t work out with me, but eventually they came out. I think their name was Little Women.”

That group would later become 3LW (3 Little Women), formed in 1999 with Adrienne Bailon, Kiely Williams and Naturi Naughton.

The trio broke through in 2000 with their hit single “No More (Baby I’ma Do Right)”, followed by their self-titled debut album later that year.

Alicia Keys would soon introduce herself to the world with “Fallin’” in 2001, which spent six weeks at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and helped launch her debut album "Songs in A Minor", which sold over 12 million copies worldwide.

Following the group’s early success, Naturi Naughton left 3LW in 2002 amid reported conflicts and was replaced by Jessica Benson in 2003.

Around the same time, Bailon and Williams joined Disney’s The Cheetah Girls alongside Raven-Symoné and Sabrina Bryan, and the group eventually disbanded in 2007.

Both Alicia Keys and 3LW went on to leave their mark on early-2000s R&B.
