'Star' will exit the stage after 3 seasons.

The FOX drama was cancelled Friday night, just after airing the final episode of its third season on Wednesday. With this announcement, it has become apparent that the cliffhangers presented in its finale will likely never be resolved.

The drama, which prominently featured the city of Atlanta, starred Queen Latifah, Brandy Norwood, Jude Demorest, Brittany O’Grady, Ryan Destiny, Amiyah Scott, Quincy Brown and Luke James. It also took place in the same universe as the recently-renewed “Empire,” making it something of a sister-series to the popular musical drama.

The reason for the cancellation has less to do with ratings, which have been impressively steady for the series in the wake of Empire‘s declines, and more to do with off-network issues.

The series finale of Star aired earlier this week on FOX.
