Today in R&B History | Brandy Starred in the Sitcom 'Moesha'

It’s been 24 years since “Moesha” aired the first time on TV. “Moesha” aired on the UPN from January 23, 1996, to May 14, 2001. The series starred Brandy Norwood and Sheryl Lee Ralph, who portrayed Moesha’s stepmother Dee Mitchell. Fans can still recite the UPN show's catchy theme song or recall the entire plot of its six seasons. Stars like Bernie Mac, Ricky Harris, Merlin Santana, Usher, Lil' Kim, Master P and Ginuwine also had recurring appearance on the show.

The sitcom, which tracked the life and times of Moesha Mitchell, a teenager living with her family in Los Angeles’s Leimert Park, was an opportunity for young Black girls to see themselves on TV.

Many classic shows and films are getting rebooted, and it looks like Moesha is next on the list. There has been talks about a re-boot from since the show’s ending in 2001.

The show’s star Brandy Norwood, Sheryl Lee Ralph and actor William Allen Young (who portrayed her parents on the hit 90’s sitcom ‘Moesha’) announced at the 29th annual DIVAS Simply Singing fundraiser, that they're bringing the show back.

Hear the confirmation for yourself below.

As you may remember, the show ended on quite the cliffhanger, with many unanswered questions about Myles being kidnapped and whether Moesha was pregnant... but finally we are getting a reboot to continue with the chapter.
