Usher Criticized for Saying Nicki Minaj Is a Product of Lil' Kim

Usher is in hot water after claiming Nicki Minaj is a product of Lil' Kim, during a discussion with Verzuz co-creator Swizz Beatz.

After the Nelly vs. Ludacris Verzuz battle this past weekend, Usher joined Swizz on Instagram Live to discuss potential battles, during which Usher made the comment about the two arch-rivals, prompting flashbacks to their 20-year music rivalry and his songs with both artists.

Lil’ Kim was featured on Usher’s "Just Like Me" from his sophomore album, My Way.

He also collaborated with Nicki on "Lil’ Freak" and "She Came II Give It II You."

Nicki's Barbz were not feeling Usher's comments, posting unicorns in Usher's Instagram comments section.

"Nicki is now a VETERAN in hip hop," one fan said. "It’s time we stop acting like she hasn’t ate her up lyrically and musically."
Another said, "Why y'all bringing up Lil' Kim?...the real gag is that Nicki would eat up Usher on a hits battle."

Yet others were ready for the world to give Lil' Kim her hip-hop flowers, which she rightfully deserves.

"I just woke up and see the girls trying to question Kim’s legacy/impact,” another tweeted. "I don’t understand why it has to keep being said that 'Lil Kim is THE goat of female rap,' that’s it and that’s all, sorry."

Others called Kim a "hip hop legend" and "fashion icon," who paved the way for not just rappers, but singers too.

"It’s depressing that Lil Kim doesn’t receive the proper respect she deserves," a fan tweeted. "People always forget that not only did she pave the way for 70% of the current female rappers today, but also Beyoncé and Rihanna as well."
